Sanford, Florida – September 29, 2011 – For the seventh time, Aerosim Flight Academy has won the prestigious Diamond Award given out by the FAA each year to those organizations recognized for safer and more proficient mechanics or technicians. Aerosim Flight Academy prides itself in safety and excellence in aviation training and believes skill and safety can never be defined by minimum standards.

Traditionally, the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) award is given out to airlines – although, Aerosim Flight Academy is the only flight school in the nation that holds this prestigious award. “We are truly honored to be recognized by the FAA,” said Tom Bruno, Director of Aircraft Maintenance. “What it’s really about is our relationship with the FAA to promote continuing education. We have always worked hard to build a strong partnership with the FAA and together it’s about striving to be the best technicians, delivering the safest aircraft and putting forth the best work possible.”

The FAA spent the day at Aerosim Flight Academy earlier this week honoring the Orlando-Sanford based operation. For more information about the AMT award, please visit the FAA Safety website.

Aerosim Flight Academy Signs Partnership Agreements with Trans States, GoJet and Compass

Aerosim Flight Academy recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Trans States Airlines, GoJet Airlines and Compass Airlines. This agreement provides Aerosim students with the opportunity to complete a pre-test screening, which upon successful completion of Aerosim’s program, would secure them a conditional employment agreement with the airlines before they even begin their training.

Aerosim Flight Academy graduates will then have the opportunity to work directly with these airline partners once they meet the minimum hour and experience requirements. All three airline partners are committed to working closely with Aerosim Flight Academy to ensure students receive the best training and fulfill their dream of becoming an airline pilot.

Jacksonville, Florida — Leah Hetzel and Sarah Morris not only beat out the 11 other participating collegiate teams but they also bested all 50 teams made up of the top female pilots in the nation. Forty-three teams finished the race. The win was especially rewarding to the pair who had competed in the Classic only a year ago and finished 14th out of 51 teams.

“We were a lot more comfortable and confident this year,” said Morris. “We applied more of what we learned in class and studied the actions of the previous winners.”

Hetzel and Morris did, however, run into bad weather as half the race was cancelled due to storms. The race, which was supposed to begin in Iowa City, Iowa, was relocated to Alliance, Neb. They finished the race in Mobile, Ala.

“I am so proud of these two women,” said Dr. Juan Merkt, JU director of aviation. “Their professionalism and dedication to learning and excelling in their craft are what make these two true winners. I would also like to thank our sponsors: Aerosim Flight Academy, Michael McKenny, the JU Aviation Advisory Board and our Women in Aviation Chapter who have made this historical accomplishment possible.”

Hetzel will be graduating this summer with a degree in aviation management and flight operations after completing one of the most sought-after internships with Delta Air Lines.

Morris graduated summa cum laude this year with a degree in aviation management and flight operations. She was named the 2010-11 top Aviation Management & Flight Operations and DCOB senior and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership for her academic, leadership and service accomplishments.
