Simulation Based Training (SBT)
Free-play simulation can only be part of an effective training
program when training goals and performance objectives
have been defined. To satisfy
these requirements, a standalone free-play training application such
as the Aerosim FMST or VFD™ can be used as part
of an instructor led program, or for a student to practice
and explore new cockpit procedures
in a self paced environment. But free-play on its own does not allow for
self paced instruction and student evaluation. In addition to the free-play
capabilities of a training device, there is a requirement to provide lesson
content, demonstrations, continual evaluation, practice scenarios, remediation
and testing. When all these requirements are combined into a single package,
we have a true Simulation Based Training application. Every Aerosim product
provides all the necessary features for SBT in the classroom, on a home
computer and via the web.
SBT in the classroom.
Classic classroom instruction is based on instructor led slide
and video presentations. This approach is adequate in many situations,
but as equipment and procedures become more complex, presentation
methods must become more advanced in order to satisfy new training
requirements. Using Aerosim SBT products allows the instructor
to use existing training material such as computer slide presentations,
while incorporating real time demonstrations of cockpit procedures
such as FMS data entry, system control, EFIS management, cockpit
flows, Vertical Navigation (VNAV) and abnormal procedures etc.
