Attend the Following at WATS:

Session 5 — RATS: Primary Training Issues
“Why the Regional Airlines should be Concerned about Student Pilot Training Funding”

Presenter: Mark Sawyer, VP of Sales & Marketing
Wednesday, April 18 from 9 – 10:30am

In December of 2010, a symposium was held to discuss the crisis in funding pilot training in the United States. Attended by government, airlines, flight schools, universities, industry consultants, and other interested parties, it became evident that not only is there a pilot shortage looming, but also a crisis for young men and women as they try to fund their flight training. In other words, while we will need many pilots, the entry pipeline is quickly drying up as potential students cannot find loans to begin their training. While other professions with which we compete for talented graduates have avenues for funding their education, the airline industry has few answers. This paper will review the issues surrounding the funding crisis, and explore new initiatives that are being applied to solve the crisis.

Session 6a: WATS Maintenance: Role of Simulation Technology
“Leveraging Maintenance Simulation for Effective Training”

Presenter: Erik Tobler, Commercial Director for Latin America & Carribean

Burnsville, Minnesota – March 8, 2012 – Aerosim, the recognized leader

Burnsville, Minnesota – March 8, 2012 – Aerosim, the recognized leader in value-driven, hi-fidelity simulation training products within the aviation industry, announced today that Jacksonville University has purchased an FAA-compliant Level 5 Bombardier CRJ-700 Flight Training Device (FTD). The device, which includes full hardware and replica of the cockpit, is scheduled to arrive at the Davis College of Business location on campus later this year.

Features of the device include an integrated flight and navigation management system with displays, aircraft systems and flight controls with full flight capabilities, a 220-degree wraparound visual providing realistic view of the environment and simulated malfunctions for emergency or non-normal procedure training.

“Aerosim is excited to build on our relationship with Jacksonville University. They recognize the need to implement airline quality training tools for their students to better prepare them for success at the airlines,” said Kristin Schmidt, Commercial Director of North America at Aerosim Technologies. “We take pride in the continued partnership and confidence they have in our device.”

The FTD’s state-of-the-art technology will give JU aviation students the advanced competencies and skill sets needed to get a head start as professional pilots. As such, the simulator will be integrated into existing Crew Resource Management (CRM) and Advanced Aircraft Systems courses. In addition, the Center will design an Airline Jet Transition course that will better prepare our graduates to operate a passenger jet in a realistic airline crew environment. The simulator will also be used for scenario-based training of students enrolled in the Center’s FAA-approved Air Traffic Control program.

Burnsville, MN – September 13, 2011 – Aerosim is exhibiting at Asian Pacific Airline Training Symposium – APATS 2011 from September 20-21, 2011 in Bangkok, Thailand. APATS will explore expertise in aviation flight training and simulation for the Asia pacific Region.

Aerosim will present during the symposium on “The Formula for Success in Ab-initio Flight Training.” Mark Sawyer, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Aerosim, will discuss how Aerosim has expanded the Traditional Methodology for ESL Cadets. He will review Aerosim’s Methodology and how they are continuously helping the students to be more prepared at the end of the training as they enter their airline careers.

“With the pilot shortage crisis looming we are working hard with students all over the world to help increase pilot training. When Asian students come to Aerosim we are very sensitive to the fact that most cadets did not have to speak English fluently and this led us to search for other solutions,” said Mark Sawyer. “At Aerosim, we realize the need for not only quality training but also providing a safe and culturally enriching experience for our Asian students. In my discussion at APATS I will be addressing the complex challenges of delivering these expectations to our students and open the communication channels with our partners in Asia.”

The objective of APATS 2011 is to present and discuss best practice in the evolution of technology, regulation and instructional methods, and conference sessions will draw on both regional and global expertise. The overall aim of the event is to assist regional carriers in developing their training as a key element of their overall safety maintenance and improvement objective.

British Airways (BA) recently launched what they’re calling the largest

British Airways’ Future Pilot Programme

British Airways (BA) recently launched what they’re calling the largest pilot recruitment drive in over a decade. Due to the airline’s addition of several Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Airbus A380s, the major airline plans to hire 800 new pilots over the next four years.

The recruitment drive includes three separate paths: military pilot recruitment; recruitment of current pilots willing to transfer to BA; and new student pilots looking to start their airline career with BA. This third path for driving new pilot hires is what BA is calling the “Future Pilot Programme.”

British Airways’ Plan to Fight the Pilot Shortage

Because the cost of pilot training is what holds most people back from pursuing a career in aviation, British Airways plans to sponsor the cost of flight training for 400 selected candidates. Upon successful completion of their flight training, these graduates will be guaranteed a job as a pilot for British Airways. Captain Robin Glover, director of pilot recruitment at British Airways, stated that “by removing the barrier of initial training costs and making it more accessible to a wider range of people, we hope to be able to attract the very best talent out there.”

Aerosim’s Solution to the Pilot Shortage

Aerosim Flight Academy has seen the need for more European pilots coming. That’s why the Academy recently partnered with Belgian Flight School. Once approved by the Belgian Aviation Authority, this new partnership will provide Integrated Airline Transport Pilot (ATPL) training at the Academy’s U.S. campus in Sanford, FL. European students will now be able to complete their flight training in the U.S. while working toward their actual JAA license. Students will no longer need to convert their FAA license to JAA once they return home.

About Aerosim Flight Academy

Aerosim Flight Academy is a top-tier flight school that was originally created by the airlines (Delta/Comair). Because its training structure was developed by the airlines, the instruction is rooted in the discipline required to turn students into successful airline pilots. For more information about Aerosim Flight Academy, e-mail our admissions department or call +1 (407) 430-4100.

Aerosim’s aircraft simulation CBT provides a realistic, ‘in the cockpit’ approach to training

Burnsville, Minnesota – August 2, 2011 – Sofia Flight Training has implemented Aerosim’s online Airbus A320 Computer Based Training (CBT). Aerosim’s USB-strategy will allow Sofia Flight Training to conduct CBT training either while being connected or disconnected from the Internet.

“We chose Aerosim CBT for their state-of-the-art technology, costs, and their expertise and understanding of our needs,” said Capt. Todor Simeonov, Head of Pilot Training at Sofia Flight Training. “The Aerosim CBT has proven its ability to provide outstanding training opportunities at substantially reduced cost. Ease of access for the students and thorough coverage of the subject matter are important features for the trainees and their ability to better understand aircraft systems and procedures.”

Aerosim Computer Based Training (CBT) using aircraft simulation-based technology is centered on Aerosim’s Virtual Flight Deck (VFD) technology. The Aerosim aircraft simulation provides a realistic, ‘in the cockpit’ approach to training. Simulation-based technology allows the pilot to enter a freeplay environment at any time during training to interact with the entire cockpit as one would in an actual aircraft.

Aerosim’s USB-strategy also allows the user access on any desktop or laptop. No downloading of programs, utilities or files is required. The training (and VFD) is totally portable. It can also be delivered via the web or by cd-rom.

“Aerosim is thrilled to be chosen by Sofia Flight Training for our online A320 CBT Training. We strive to offer flexible, state-of-the-art training solutions for aviation companies and this is a great partnership for us,” said Phil Brown, Vice President of Aerosim Technologies.

Jacksonville, Florida — Leah Hetzel and Sarah Morris not only beat out the 11 other participating collegiate teams but they also bested all 50 teams made up of the top female pilots in the nation. Forty-three teams finished the race. The win was especially rewarding to the pair who had competed in the Classic only a year ago and finished 14th out of 51 teams.

“We were a lot more comfortable and confident this year,” said Morris. “We applied more of what we learned in class and studied the actions of the previous winners.”

Hetzel and Morris did, however, run into bad weather as half the race was cancelled due to storms. The race, which was supposed to begin in Iowa City, Iowa, was relocated to Alliance, Neb. They finished the race in Mobile, Ala.

“I am so proud of these two women,” said Dr. Juan Merkt, JU director of aviation. “Their professionalism and dedication to learning and excelling in their craft are what make these two true winners. I would also like to thank our sponsors: Aerosim Flight Academy, Michael McKenny, the JU Aviation Advisory Board and our Women in Aviation Chapter who have made this historical accomplishment possible.”

Hetzel will be graduating this summer with a degree in aviation management and flight operations after completing one of the most sought-after internships with Delta Air Lines.

Morris graduated summa cum laude this year with a degree in aviation management and flight operations. She was named the 2010-11 top Aviation Management & Flight Operations and DCOB senior and received the President’s Award for Outstanding Leadership for her academic, leadership and service accomplishments.

Sanford, Florida – April 8, 2011 – Aerosim Flight Academy students

Sanford, Florida – April 8, 2011 – Aerosim Flight Academy students received a once in a lifetime opportunity this spring when two Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP) were guest speakers at their school. Two members of WASP, Bernice “BEE” Haydu and Shirley C. Kruse, came to the Academy to talk to students and staff about being a WASP before, during and after the war.

In World War II, Haydu and Kruse along with 1,072 other women earned the proud title of Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASP). They were trained to fly “the Army way” by the U.S. Army Air Forces at Avenger Field in Sweetwater, Texas. These pioneers did not see combat, but they did fly 60 million miles and spend 60,000 hours in flight.

Haydu and Kruse spent over two hours at the Academy, sharing a presentation on how they made their mark in aviation history and talking one-on-one with their future successors: students learning how to fly at Aerosim Flight Academy.

“Bee and Shirley are two amazing women who shared their lifelong passion for aviation with our students,” said Shannon Sheppard, Director of Education at Aerosim Flight Academy. “There’s nothing better or more inspiring than an experienced pilot sharing her stories with the next generation. We received a lot of good feedback from the students, and we will continue to bring guest speakers to the campus.”

Other Important Dates

The WASP organization was decommissioned in December of 1944, and their active flying status for the military was over. Most of the WASPs wanted to continue to fly, but no airline or aviation organization would recognize the women as qualified pilots. This did not stop Haydu from continuing her passion for flight; she went on to start her own aviation company with her husband, training pilots and passing on her knowledge and experiences.

On July 1, 2009, President Barack Obama and the U.S. Congress awarded WASP members with the Congressional Gold Medal. Haydu and Kruse had their medals on display for students during their visit to Aerosim Flight Academy.

Aerosim Flight Academy is exhibiting at APATS (Asian Pacific Airline Training

Thursday, February 05, 2011 — Hong Kong — Aerosim Flight Academy is exhibiting at APATS (Asian Pacific Airline Training Symposium) March 8-10, in Hong Kong. The APATS Ab Initio and Evidence Based Training conference will take place alongside Asian Aerospace this year. As one of the few flight schools selected in the United States to educate and train Chinese students to become pilots, Aerosim Flight Academy has signed contracts with Shandong Airlines, Shun Feng Airlines and CAFUC (Civil Aviation Flight University of China). In January, Aerosim Flight Academy also hosted Captain Jeff Chen, Manager, as well as Captain Bright Lee, B744 Training Chief, both of the Flight Training and Flight Operations Division with China Airlines. The academy is also hosting Shandong Airlines and Shenyang Aviation University this month.

The exhibit includes topics of great interest to the rapidly developing airline industry in the Peoples Republic of China. Mark Sawyer, Vice President Sales and Marketing at Aerosim, will be presenting at APATS. His seminar will address Aerosim Flight Academy’s role with Asian airlines and universities to develop and train candidates for first officer positions throughout Asia. According to Sawyer, “ As the need for pilots increase throughout all of Asia, the Asian carriers have looked towards America and its’ quality flight schools for pilot training. At Aerosim we realize the need for not only quality training but also providing a safe and culturally enriching experience for our Asian students. In my discussion at APATS I will be addressing the complex challenges of delivering these expectations to our students and look for comments from our partners in Asia.”

Students from CAFUC, Shandong Airlines and Shun Feng Airlines train at Aerosim Flight Academy for eleven months and then return to China to fly large commercial aircraft such as the B737 and A320.These international airlines and universities continue to contract Aerosim Flight Academy because it has the reputation and proven track record for training new pilots for airline operations in China. With the United States having a predominantly open airspace, it provides a great opportunity for flight training. By living in the United States, the English language immersion with the flight academy’s courses are critical to the total success of the programs as it is the mandatory language of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

“We are excited to continue to train international students,” said Paul Woessner, Senior Vice President of Aerosim Flight Academy. “We work hard to help the students achieve excellence in pilot training and safety as well as provide a positive life experience for them while they train with us.”
