The most powerful feature of Aerosim's desktop trainers is the ability
to provide detailed instruction while in a free-play environment.
The Lesson Plan Editor allows the user to develop detailed lessons
that demonstrate multiple solutions to a problem, while full free-play
during the lesson allows the student to experience the consequences
of incorrect actions. By monitoring student actions, the lesson
can provide a means of guidance and evaluation, an important factor
in free-play desktop training.
The
Lesson Plan Editor can be used to develop lessons using different
instructional approaches:
Lock
Step Lessons
Users can create customized lockstep interactive scenarios that require
the student to follow an exact sequence path as defined in the lesson
plan. This feature is very effective for the initial student who is learning
standardized airline procedures. Branches and a user-selectable maximum
number of attempts can be assigned to each scenario in order to assist
students. The learning process can be further enhanced by the many audio
and text based features of the Lesson Plan Editor.
Free-play
Lessons
Free-play Lessons can prompt the student to perform certain actions through
audio and text messages, and can then monitor the student response by
means of trigger parameters. An incorrect action by the student results
in the student experiencing its effects thus learning from their mistakes.
Correct actions allow the student to continue the lesson without remedial
instruction.
Help
Lessons
The Lesson Plan editor allows for the display of comprehensive on-line
student help. This help takes the form of additional lessons, which can
use all the normal features provided by the Lesson Plan Editor. Help
sequences can be triggered by an incorrect student action, or by selecting
a help icon on the toolbar, and can provide lock step instruction on
the correct procedures. The student can be returned to the free-play
lesson once the help session is complete.
