A320 Flight Instructor
Position Purpose
A Flight Instructor is responsible for conducting designated flight training lessons.
Primary Duties
Primary duties include:
- Conducting a designated flight training lesson with reference to the lesson plan
- Conducting a crew briefing, training sessions in a flight simulator, and a crew debriefing
- Documenting training using specific written and/or on-line forms
- Conducting an assessment of student progress when required to do so
- Bringing lesson plan errors and omissions to the attention of the Chief Instructor
- Note: Flight instructors may also be become qualified to conduct certain ground training events as indicated in the instructor’s qualification records.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics
Knowledge, skills, and other characteristics include (but are not limited to):
- Proven ability to effectively teach complex concepts and procedures using demonstration and/or directing specific activity.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the flight maneuvers, skills, and events as Pilot-In-Command to the same standard as required in the respective curriculum.
- In-depth understanding of the respective aircraft and flight procedures.
- Proficient time management skills.
- Skilled ability to observe, assess, and constructively critique technical, procedural, and CRM skills.
Qualifications
The normal preferred qualifications include (but are not limited to):
- An unrestricted FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate
- Airplane Multiengine Land, with type rating in the respective aircraft.
- 1000 hours in a multi-crew environment preferred.
- 300 hours flight experience as a crewmember in the respective aircraft
- One year experience instructing in a crew environment preferred.
- At least 18 years of age (FAA requirement – may not be waived)
- Able to read, write, and fluently speak the English language (FAA requirement – may not be waived).
- The following aeronautical experience as outlined by 14 CFR Part 61.159 (FAA requirement – may not be waived):
- At least 1,500 hours of total time that includes at least:
- 500 hours of cross-country flight time.
- 100 hours of night flight time.
- 75 hours of instrument flight time, in actual or simulated instrument conditions (see 14 CFR Part 61.159(a)(3) for further conditions)
- 250 hours of flight time in an airplane as a pilot in command, or as second in command performing the duties of pilot in command while under the supervision of a pilot in command, or any combination thereof, which includes at least 100 hours of cross-country flight time; and 25 hours of night flight time.
- Note: Not more than 100 hours of the total aeronautical experience requirements may be obtained in a flight simulator or flight training device that represents an airplane, provided the aeronautical experience was obtained in an approved course conducted by a training center certificated under 14 CFR Part 142.
