Enhanced VPT

Product Overview

The Enhanced Virtual Procedure Trainer (EVPT) is most effective when used for familiarization, systems and procedures training prior to entering the full flight simulator. Training organizations can schedule numerous hours in a VPT for the cost of just one hour in a full flight simulator. Most instructors prefer the VPT learning environment as opposed to a simulator when it comes to teaching crew concepts, FMC skills, normal flight procedures, and system abnormals. Unlike full flight simulator training footprints, students are able to perform tasks repetitively within a learning conducive environment; all while enjoying simulator-like fidelity.  The ability to effortlessly and accurately initiate the VPT to a predefined snapshot within seconds of selection is a powerful tool to increase repetition or condense a wide variety of training issues in a short amount of time. This eliminates wasteful set-up or repositioning time.

Aerosim’s powerful Lesson Plan Editor™ software allows training organizations to create customized lesson plans to be used in conjunction with instructor-led training.  The program makes it possible for the instructors to offer more standardized lessons with greater ability to observe and teach while the lesson software conducts initialization, fault input, and ATC functions using realistic ATC audio.

This same technology also allows an individual or crew to perform a lesson without an instructor present using the sophisticated monitoring, testing and remediation capability of the software. The VPT even allows you to display existing courseware or PowerPoint presentations and can be integrated with the organization’s Learning Management System to enable automated tracking of student progress and performance.

Strategic Application

  • Incorporation of the VPT into simulator briefing sessions to rehearse key maneuvers
  • Increasing the amount of VPT time in order to decrease simulator time (simulator only used for training motion-based maneuvers and validating maneuvers required by regulation)
  • Aircraft systems integration training
  • Practice and learn “soft skills” such as CRM and Threat & Error Management techniques.
  • Training “hot topics” year-round in base
  • Practice new procedures
  • Self-directed individual or crew training using custom lesson plans combined with the monitoring capability of the VPT software

Features

Virtual Aircraft

Virtual Aircraft enables pilots and technicians to perform external component location, walk around inspection and procedure based interaction. Users are able to perform practical exercises including: operational tests (systems and BITE), AMM & TSM tasks, MMEL maintenance procedures, and servicing.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Maintenance functions including avionics bay, black box location LRU BITE and failures can be included. Individual Line Replaceable Units (LRU’s) or the complete equipment bay can be simulated which may be used to familiarize maintenance personnel with the avionics. The LRU’s with LCD/menu type interfaces are fully simulated with customer specified malfunctions to aid in troubleshooting techniques.

Active Schematics

Active Schematics are detailed diagrams of the aircraft systems. They show in real-time what is happening within the aircraft systems based on flight deck inputs. These Active Schematics are tied directly into the simulation in progress

Specialty Training

The addition of flight controls and a visual system take the Virtual Procedure Trainer to the realm of ground operations and in-flight training. Even more events that were previously practiced on the full flight simulator now can be practiced in the Virtual Procedure Trainer at a fraction of the cost. These items include:

  • Low visibility taxi practice
  • Runway incursion scenarios
  • CAT II/III Approaches, Landings, and Missed Approach
  • Non-precision Approaches and Landings
  • TCAS scenarios including TA, RA, and recovery procedures
  • Weather radar and EGPWS scenarios with visual correlation
  • Data link communications scenarios
  • Special airport training with visual correlation
  • RNP Approaches
  • Heads-up Guidance System (HGS)
  • Flight Data Recorder Playback

Return on Investment

Payback in Just a Matter of Months

Low Capital investment, unmatched flexibility and annual savings make the VPT an easy choice. When incorporating the VPT into your training program, cost benefits are realized in a variety of ways.

Fixed Base Simulator (FBS) Sessions Moved From Full Flight Simulator (FFS) to the VPT

  • Lower hourly cost vs. Fixed Base Simulator time
  • Training of events in VPT that can be “checked” in the FFS
  • VPT can be installed locally, eliminating travel for FBS
  • Pilots proficient prior to traveling for FFS
  • More efficient use of full flight simulators for flying skills training

Lower Crew Expenses

  • Pilots spend fewer days offline
  • Reduce per-diem and hotel cost

Fewer Training Devices

  • One VPT for multiple aircraft types
  • Fewer full flight simulators required

Fixed Low Support & Maintenance Costs

  • Easy access to spares – VPT utilizes off-the-shelf components
  • Updates require a software upgrade vs. hardware for FBS
